Accra: Private legal practitioner, Justice Abdulai, has urged the president of Ghana to initiate an investigation into the dealings of AKSA in the country.
According to Ghana Web, the operations of AKSA have had significant financial implications for Ghana, warranting a criminal investigation to resolve outstanding issues.
Justice Abdulai conveyed his concerns during an interview on Accra-based TV3, emphasizing the necessity for the president to act promptly and assertively. He highlighted that the roots of the issue trace back to the president's previous tenure and were among the factors leading to a significant electoral defeat. Abdulai stressed that a comprehensive criminal investigation is crucial to address the situation effectively, suggesting that all contracts and activities involving AKSA since its arrival in Ghana should be scrutinized to uncover any malfeasance.
The call for investigation gains further context in light of recent legal developments involving Kwaku Asante Berko, a former Goldman Sachs Group Inc banker and ex-Managing Director of the Tema Oil Refinery. Berko has been convicted for orchestrating a bribery scheme exceeding $1 million to facilitate the establishment of a power plant in Ghana. His trial, which commenced in late July 2026, revealed that Berko and his associates paid substantial bribes to Ghanaian government officials to secure the project, as stated by prosecutor Katherine Raut during the trial in Brooklyn, New York.
