President Mahama Urges Global Investors to Capitalize on Ghana’s Strategic Position in Africa

Washington: President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed Ghana's commitment to positioning the country as a strategic investment destination and gateway to Africa, urging global investors and development partners to take advantage of the continent's growing opportunities.

According to Ghana Web, President Mahama's message was delivered by Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Sampson Ahi, at the Africa Business Investment Summit (ABIS) 2026 in Washington, D.C. Ahi emphasized Ghana's belief in 'Africa's moment' and the country's readiness to collaborate with investors who share confidence in the continent's future.

The summit, held at MGM National Harbor, gathered government officials, investors, and private-sector stakeholders to explore opportunities for investment and sustainable economic development across Africa. President Mahama highlighted Ghana's economic transformation agenda, which focuses on reforms to strengthen macroeconomic stability, expand productive capacity, attract investment, and create opportunities for inclusive growth.

Key initiatives discussed at the summit included the government's 24-Hour Economy Programme and the Investment Opportunities Mapping Project, aimed at increasing production and unlocking investment opportunities. President Mahama underscored Ghana's readiness to welcome investment across strategic sectors such as energy, technology, agriculture, mining, tourism, and manufacturing.

The Feed Ghana Programme was highlighted as a major pillar of economic transformation, with goals to boost food production, reduce reliance on imports, create jobs, and provide industries with reliable raw materials. Ghana's industrialisation strategy, including the development of industrial parks and special economic zones, was also showcased.

President Mahama pointed out Ghana's strategic advantage as host of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) Secretariat, describing it as a gateway for investors seeking access to a market with a combined GDP exceeding US$3.5 trillion. The AfCFTA presents significant opportunities by connecting African markets and expanding trade.

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, also addressed the summit, calling for good governance as a critical economic asset that builds investor confidence. Ghana's Ambassador to the United States, Victor Smith, emphasized the importance of investment partnerships in creating opportunities for Africa's youth and contributing to the continent's long-term growth.

The overarching message at ABIS 2026 was clear: 'Invest in Ghana. Invest in Africa,' as Ghana positions itself as a key partner in building Africa's economic future.
