President Mahama Suspends NSA Director-General Amid Visa Scandal

Accra:President John Dramani Mahama has suspended Yaw Ampofo Ankrah from his position as Director-General of the National Sports Authority due to allegations of visa racketeering.

According to Ghana Web, the suspension was prompted by a letter seen by sports journalist Muftawu Nabila, which stated that Ampofo Ankrah was to step aside while investigations into the 2026 World Cup visa scandal proceeded. The Minister of Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, submitted a report to President Mahama regarding the scandal, recommending the suspension.

Nabila, speaking on PM Express on October 12, 2026, emphasized the necessity of the suspension to ensure a transparent investigation. He noted that the president's secretary cited the visa racketeering allegations and the minister’s report as reasons for the decision.

Additionally, the Minority in Parliament has urged an investigation into both Kofi Adams and Ghana Tourism Authority CEO Maame Efua over alleged irregularities involving NSA and the GTA Fest, which include concerns about visa facilitation, charges, and the accuracy of lists submitted to foreign embassies.
