Bolgatanga: President Mahama recently conducted an inspection of the ongoing Bolgatanga Airport project, a strategic development aimed at enhancing air connectivity in the Upper East Region. The new facility is set to feature a 2,200-metre runway capable of accommodating domestic aircraft, an apron for two aircraft, and a modern terminal building. Additional infrastructure includes a taxiway, an Air Traffic Control tower, and a dedicated rescue and firefighting facility.
According to Ghana Web, the terminal is designed to manage around 100,000 passengers annually, with plans for expansion as demand grows. The inclusion of airfield lighting will facilitate safe operations at night and during low visibility conditions. The project is slated for completion within 24 months, promising to significantly boost connectivity and unlock new commercial, tourism, and investment opportunities in the region.
The inspection was part of President Mahama's two-day Resetting Ghana Tour, which aims to engage with citizens, evaluate ongoing projects, and underscore the government's dedication to inclusive and accountable governance. Beyond the airport, the President is set to review other key infrastructure projects, including the Chuchuliga-Sandema road and the Community Day Senior High School 'E' Block in Paga. Additionally, he will participate in a community durbar in Zuarungu to discuss the rollout of the Free Primary Health Care programme.
The tour will continue with further inspections at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Navrongo, the Tongo-Shega-Pelungu road, and a concluding Citizens Engagement event in Bolgatanga.
