President Mahama Directs GHS300 Million for Police Housing

Accra:President John Dramani Mahama has instructed Finance Minister Cassiel Ato Forson to allocate GHS300 million in the 2027 budget for the construction of 250 apartments designated for police officers. This initiative aims to alleviate congestion in police barracks and improve the living conditions of the personnel.

According to Ghana Web, Mahama made this announcement during the commissioning of a new 85-bed ward complex at the Ghana Police Hospital on October 13, 2026. The project is part of broader efforts to enhance the welfare of police personnel in Ghana.

In addition to housing, Mahama plans to bolster the operational capacity of the Ghana Police Service by supplying additional armored vehicles and protective equipment. The service is set to receive a second batch of 40 armored vehicles shortly, following the delivery of 50 vehicles in December 2025. Further procurement of body armor is also underway to ensure the safety of officers during operations.

These initiatives are intended to complement ongoing investments in police healthcare and accommodation, supporting officers in their duties. The newly commissioned ward complex at the Ghana Police Hospital is part of efforts to expand healthcare facilities for police personnel and other patients.
