Accra: President John Dramani Mahama has announced the formation of a 13-Member Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy (PAGE), underscoring the government's dedication to restoring macroeconomic stability, enhancing fiscal sustainability, and fostering inclusive economic growth.
According to Ghana News Agency, the Presidential Advisory Group on the Economy will be chaired by President Mahama and will include esteemed figures from academia, public service, and the private sector. Prominent members include Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Mr. Ishmael Yamson, Mr. Kwame Pianim, Madam Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa, Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, Sir Samuel Esson Jonah, Mr. Ato Brown, Dr. Henry A. Kofi Wampah, and Togbe Afede XIV. Additional members are Madam Abena Amoah, Prof Priscilla Twumasi Baffour, and Prof Patience Aseweh Abor.
The statement from Mr. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Presidential Spokesman and Minister of State in-charge of Government Communications, highlighted that PAGE's establishment reflects the President's commitment to leveraging national and international expertise for sound economic governance, strategic policy coordination, and evidence-based decision-making. The advisory group will function as a high-level body offering independent, strategic economic advice to the President.
The group will focus on providing strategic counsel on macroeconomic management, fiscal consolidation, debt sustainability, and ensuring coherence between fiscal and monetary policy. Additionally, it will advise on structural transformation, industrial development, competitiveness, and export growth strategies, as well as guide sectoral development, private-sector expansion, investment mobilization, and sustainable job creation.
The statement further elaborated that PAGE would support the design and implementation of the 24-Hour Economy, the Accelerated Export Development Programme, and national productivity-enhancing reforms. The group is tasked with conducting periodic assessments of Ghana's economic performance and suggesting policy adjustments or corrective measures as needed.
Furthermore, the advisory group will contribute expert input to Ghana's economic negotiations and partnerships with bilateral and multilateral development partners, international financial institutions, and investors. It will report directly to the President, providing advisory memoranda and briefs, including periodic strategic reviews, upon request.
