Tarkwa: The Tarkwa District Magistrate Court Two has sentenced a porter, Eric Essuman, alias 'Nzema,' to 18 months imprisonment with hard labour for stealing GHS3,500 from a trader at the Tarkwa main lorry station.
According to Ghana News Agency, Essuman was convicted on his own plea for causing unlawful damage and stealing. Police Sergeant Adwoa Yeboah informed the court, presided over by Mr. Isaac Osei Asare, that the complainant, Rose Kpabi, a trader, resides in Twifo-Praso in the Central Region.
The incident occurred on January 13, 2026, at about 3:30 a.m. when Kpabi was sleeping in front of the Latex Foam shop near the Railway Station Mosque. She awoke to find Essuman standing beside her, holding a blade and cutting her dress, which was valued at GHS150. As she tried to apprehend him, Essuman fled the scene.
Kpabi later discovered that her GHS3,500 had been stolen. A witness identified Essuman by his nickname 'Nzema,' as he was known in the area. On the same day, Kpabi received information about Essuman's whereabouts, indicating he was hiding in a nearby ghetto. She relayed the incident to the owner of the ghetto, leading to Essuman's arrest. He was then handed over to the Railway Police Station at Tarkwa.
