Bolgatanga: The Ghana Police Service has successfully re-arrested 33-year-old Abdul-Aziz Iddrisu, a suspect wanted for his alleged involvement in the killing of General/Constable Seth Oppong Damoa and the shooting of two other officers at the Kariminga police barrier.
According to Ghana Web, the arrest was executed on February 17, 2026, during a coordinated intelligence operation led by personnel from the National Police Intelligence Directorate (NPID) and the Upper East Regional Police Intelligence Division. The suspect and his accomplices, who remain at large, had been on the police’s wanted list for attacking police officers.
The police statement detailed that G/Const. Seth Oppong Damoah was killed, while G/Cpl. Nyanku Charles and G/Cpl. Abu Moro were fatally injured in the incident. A search of Iddrisu’s mobile phones revealed his active involvement in the ongoing Bawku conflict and alleged participation in multiple killings.
Furthermore, the police discovered that Iddrisu is part of a WhatsApp group named Trusted Friends, which uses the image of Alhaji Seidu Abagri, a rival chief in the Bawku chieftaincy dispute, as their profile picture. The group is reportedly mainly comprised of Moshies and Mamprusis.
Videos on Iddrisu’s phones show him wielding AK-47 assault rifles and pistols, while an audio message indicates he requested more arms and ammunition to support his faction in the conflict. The police also noted that Iddrisu and another individual named Mark, who is still at large, are believed to be involved in importing weapons into Bawku.
The police are continuing their investigations to capture the remaining accomplices involved in the attack and the broader conflict.
