Jacobu: The Ashanti Regional Police Command is investigating an incident in which a Jacobu District patrol team was attacked by a group of civilians at Bepotenten Sukuum in the Ashanti Region while carrying out routine duties.
According to Ghana News Agency, the incident occurred on January 23, 2026, when officers recovered a pump-action gun from a 15-year-old boy and instructed him to inform the owner to report to the police with the proper documents. A press release copied to the agency stated that while returning from patrol, the team was confronted by a crowd of approximately 100 individuals blocking the road, armed with cutlasses and firearms.
The group assaulted the officers and seized a service rifle. In the resulting confrontation, the assailant who took the weapon was shot by police, and another was injured, according to the release. The service rifle was successfully recovered.
The Police Command emphasized its stance on such attacks, stating, "The Police Command would like to, once again, caution the public against attacks on our officers since perpetrators will be pursued and arrested to face the full rigours of the law."
