Bekwai:Police in Bekwai have denied reports concerning the arrest of Zakaria Abdulai, the interdicted headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS). The denial comes amidst ongoing investigations into allegations of sexual misconduct involving female students at the school.
According to Ghana Web, ASP Lloyd Baidoo, the Public Relations Officer of the Bekwai Command, clarified the situation during an interview with Adom FM. Baidoo refuted claims made by the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed-Mubarak Muntaka, who had informed Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee that Abdulai had been arrested. Baidoo stated, "As I speak to you, he has not been arrested. He is at home. So far, to the best of my knowledge, no arrest has been effected."
The ongoing case has been transferred from the Ashanti Regional Police Command to the Police Headquarters in Accra for further investigation. Muntaka disclosed that he became aware of the case on September 7, 2026, following a report to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). He emphasized his role in ensuring the case's transfer to the national headquarters for a comprehensive investigation.
Investigators are reportedly working on obtaining a DNA sample from Abdulai for comparison with semen found on a dress belonging to one of the alleged victims. Meanwhile, Abdulai has resigned from his role as the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Secretary for the Juaben Constituency and withdrawn from the constituency chairmanship election. Despite his resignation, he remains interdicted from his position as headmaster while the investigation continues.
