Accra: The Ashanti Regional Police Command has arrested six persons suspected to be members or associates of an organised armed robbery syndicate operating in the region. The suspects were apprehended in August 2026 by the Anti-Armed Robbery Unit in Kumasi following intelligence-led operations.
According to Ghana Web, the suspects have been identified as Philip Nyarko alias 'Kawawa', Hadi Samed alias 'Toronto', Issahaku Musah alias 'Isak', Suraj Mohammed alias 'Baba Nde' alias 'Trouble', Hadi Abdul Majeed alias 'Panie', and Foster Owusu Afriyie alias 'Joe Fraizer'. Preliminary investigations have linked them to reported street robbery incidents in various parts of the region, including Kaase, Ahinsan Estate, Santasi New Site, Bronikrom, and Kwadso Estate.
The Police have recovered several items suspected to be connected to the alleged robberies. These include two motorcycles, two machetes, knives, an iPhone 13, five keypad mobile phones, a laptop, and 33 assorted mobile phones. The recovery of these items forms part of the ongoing investigation to establish the full extent of the suspects' criminal activities.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Augustine Agyemang Duah, suspected of assisting the group in unlocking mobile phones believed to have been stolen. The Police noted that Philip Nyarko, Hadi Samed, and Abdul Shattar had previously been arrested on December 6, 2025, for alleged conspiracy to commit crime, robbery, and attempted robbery. They were arraigned before the Asokwa Circuit Court 1 and later granted bail. However, after their release, some suspects allegedly resumed criminal activities.
The Police are currently searching for additional suspects believed to be linked to the syndicate, including individuals identified as Andy, Umaru, Dauda, Malik, and Abdul Farouk. They have urged the public to contact them with any information regarding the whereabouts of these individuals and advised against personal confrontation or attempts to apprehend the suspects.
Investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects' involvement, identify other individuals connected to the syndicate, and recover additional stolen property. The arrested suspects will be processed for arraignment before the appropriate court in accordance with the laws of Ghana.
