Pianim Hails Fidelity Bank’s Leadership, Governance and Succession Plan

Accra: Mr Kwame Pianim, an economist and investment expert, has commended the leadership, governance, and succession plan of Fidelity Bank, Ghana's largest privately-owned bank. He emphasized the importance of homegrown ownership as a critical factor for sustaining economic recovery and building a resilient capital market in the country. Mr Pianim made these remarks at the Debt Capital Markets Conference in Accra, which was organized by Fidelity Bank.

According to Ghana News Agency, the conference was held under the theme 'Lower Rates, Higher Opportunity: Unlocking Growth Through the Debt Capital Markets.' Reflecting on Ghana's economic cycles over the past five decades, Mr Pianim cautioned against complacency and stressed the need for fiscal discipline and stronger institutions to ensure the country's continued positive transition.

He highlighted the significance of orderly leadership transition, honesty, and prudent management as indicators of institutional maturity. These factors, he noted, instill confidence in investors and enable businesses to meet their long-term obligations. Mr Pianim praised Fidelity Bank for its effective succession planning, which has seen a smooth transition from the bank's founders to a new generation of leaders.

Mr Pianim also underscored the importance of Ghanaian ownership within the financial sector, advocating for the strengthening of domestic sources of capital. He argued that significant ownership of financial institutions by Ghanaians, as exemplified by Fidelity Bank, would ensure that the country follows its own economic interests rather than external influences.

The conference gathered institutional investors and market leaders to address key issues, including strategies for Ghana's recovery and its journey toward achieving lasting, productive growth.
