’People are desirous of hearing Bawumia speak on the economy; it’s a pleasant call, not pressure’ – Nana Boakye

The ruling New Patriotic Party, NPP, has refuted claims that the party is piling pressure on the Vice President, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia to speak on the state of Ghana’s economy.

The Vice President as Head of the country’s Economic Management Team will today, Thursday, April 7, 2022, speak on recent challenges the economy is facing and the controversial E-Levy which was passed by Parliament.

Already, many have called on the Vice President to publicly speak on the high cost of living among others, considering how vociferous he had been on economic issues while in opposition.

Speaking to Citi News, National Youth Organizer of the NPP, Henry Nana Boakye, said the Vice President will use an ongoing TESCON program to lay the facts bare on the economy.

“There is a pleasant expectation on him as he is known for his knowledge of economic issues, so people are desirous of hearing from him. If he were an ordinary person, he wouldn’t be sought after to speak about economic issues. So, I would rather say that it is a pleasant expectation to want to hear from him.”

The Vice President, Dr. Bawumia, has been largely silent amidst the controversy surrounding the government’s E-Levy.

He has been called upon several times to speak on the economy since he has been the lead advocate for a digital economy in particular in the country.

The economy is currently shaken by a myriad of factors worsening the cost of living for many.
