Patience Ozokwo Opens Up About Arranged Marriage at 19

Lagos: Veteran Nollywood actress, Patience Ozokwo, has opened up about her early marriage, sharing insights into a union arranged by her parents when she was just 19. The actress recounted her journey from initial apprehension to developing a deep bond with her husband over the years.

According to Ghana Web, Ozokwo's story was highlighted on a verified X account named Igbo History and Fact, where she expressed, "Marriage found me at just 19. It wasn't my choice, my parents arranged it. At first, I was scared. I didn't know how to love a man I didn't choose." Despite these initial fears, Ozokwo revealed that love eventually blossomed between them, leading to a 23-year marriage.

Tragically, her husband battled illness for 15 of those years before passing away in 2000. The couple had three children together, and Ozokwo later adopted five more. One of these adopted children has since died, leaving her with seven children. Reflecting on her life after her husband's passing, the actress chose not to remarry, dedicating her life to raising her children.

Ozokwo also shared her thoughts on contemporary marriages, noting a shift from the endurance and commitment she witnessed in arranged marriages of her time. She emphasized the importance of strong family values, stating, "I have told my children never to think of divorce. I raised my daughters to be respectful and my sons to be responsible. That is how I built a strong home through hardship, love, respect, and sacrifice."

Through her experiences, Ozokwo aims to impart lessons of resilience and dedication, hoping to inspire others in their marital journeys and family life.
