Accra: Ghanaian filmmaker Pascal Amanfo has publicly responded to actress and fashion icon Nana Akua Addo over comments she made regarding Yvonne Nelson’s involvement in a movie produced years ago. In a strongly worded message shared on social media, Pascal Amanfo began by acknowledging Nana Akua Addo’s contribution to Ghana’s fashion and entertainment industry, praising her for elevating celebrity red carpet fashion.
According to Ghana Web, the filmmaker criticised Nana Akua Addo for allegedly claiming that she had secured Yvonne Nelson for the cast of a film she produced, describing the claim as misleading. Amanfo noted that Nana Akua Addo had been sharing the poster of a movie he directed and slightly insinuating that she had Yvonne as part of her movie. He described this as an unnecessary distortion of the truth.
Pascal Amanfo went on to reveal that securing Yvonne Nelson’s appearance in the movie was not an easy task, explaining that Nana Akua Addo did not have a personal or professional relationship with the actress at the time. He stated that both he and Prince David had to plead with Yvonne Nelson to be part of the film, emphasizing that it was not through Nana Akua Addo’s efforts.
He disclosed that Yvonne Nelson initially turned down the role due to her selectiveness about projects she associated with at that time. With assistance from Shangai and Edmund Kwasi, the production manager, they managed to convince Yvonne Nelson to participate in the movie.
Despite the disagreement, Pascal Amanfo reiterated his respect for Nana Akua Addo’s achievements but urged her to also respect the legacy of others who had established themselves before her. He emphasized that both Nana Akua Addo and Yvonne Nelson are respected brands on their own, and there is no need for their paths to cross contentiously.
His comments have since sparked discussions on social media, with many users debating the relationship between Ghana’s fashion and movie industries as well as the need for mutual respect among public figures.
