Accra: Parliament descended into a charged atmosphere following the presentation of the 2026 Mid-Year Budget Review, as the Minority and Majority sides engaged in rival chants.
According to Ghana Web, the Minority Caucus, clad in black, chanted 'Free Wontumi!' in support of the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi. In response, the Majority countered with their own chant, 'Bring Ken back!'
The chants erupted shortly after Finance Minister Dr Cassiel Ato Forson delivered the government's Mid-Year Fiscal Policy Review on the floor of Parliament on July 23, 2026. The Minority were also seen hitting their tables with books in hand as tensions rose on the floor.
