Accra: Ghanaian media personality and renowned DJ Ohemaa Woyeje has said she would choose to raise her children in Europe over Ghana without hesitation. Speaking in a conversation with MzGee, Ohemaa Woyeje, a mother of two daughters, cited major differences in maternal healthcare, postnatal support, and child welfare systems as the driving factors behind her preference.
According to Ghana Web, Ohemaa Woyeje highlighted that Ghanaian medical practice often emphasizes caesarean sections even in the absence of underlying conditions, contrasting with her European experience where natural delivery is encouraged and medical intervention is reserved for genuine necessity. “In Ghana, they typically advise that we go for CS when there is no underlying condition,” she stated.
She further described a postnatal experience abroad where she was well cared for and respected. “They provide almost everything, the care, the respect, you can’t describe it all,” she said, adding that her husband was fully present throughout the entire process, from delivery through recovery.
Ohemaa Woyeje also pointed to the long-term benefits available to children in European systems, including state-backed financial support and structured early education, which she believes offer a stronger foundation for her children’s development. “The system takes care of them and gives them money,” she noted.
Her children have experienced both environments, splitting time between Ghana and Europe, and she mentioned that this exposure has only reinforced her conclusion. “Over and over, I would choose Europe,” she affirmed.
