The defeated Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo, has observed in a congratulatory congratulating the newly-elected national executives of the party that: “I still hold the view that our various campaigns could have been more decent and issue-based”.

A few days before the election, a leaked tape captured Mr Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, the General Secretary, detailing to some party delegates in Kumasi, during his campaign tours, how certain decisions taken by Mr Ofosu-Ampofo as chairman, led to the defeat of the party at the polls.

Meanwhile, he has re-dedicated himself to the task of working for the party to secure victory in the 2024 election, despite losing to Mr Asiedu Nketiah in the party’s just-ended congress at the Accra Sports Stadium at the weekend.

Mr Ofosu-Ampofo also pledged his unalloyed commitment to work even harder for the party together with the elected national officers, and the rank and file of the NDC to achieve their goal of regaining power from the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2024.

He called on the winners and losers to deploy all their energies to fast-track the healing and peace-building process in order to engender the unity needed for a collective prosecution of their agenda for victory in 2024.

“I pray that all losers will quickly recover from our individual pain and soldier on. Unity remains paramount to our success now and beyond,” he said.

He expressed his appreciation to all his colleagues who worked with him in his four-year tenure as National Chairman and further extended gratitude to all supporters, well-wishers, delegates and his campaign team for their support and sacrifices.

Mr Nketiah polled 5,569 votes while Mr Ofosu-Ampofo polled 2,892 votes at the polls.

The other two candidates, Nii Armah Ashittey and Samuel Yaw Adusei polled 38 and 52 votes, respectively.
