Oti Regional Police Commander Leads Efforts to Calm Tensions in Nkwanta After Attack

Nkwanta: The Oti Regional Police Commander, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr. Alex Acquah, has undertaken a working visit to Nkwanta South to assess the security situation and lead efforts to de-escalate tensions following a recent armed attack. According to Ghana News Agency, a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Mr. John Nchor, Public Affairs Officer of Oti Regional Command, stated that the visit, undertaken with senior officers from the Regional Command, formed part of proactive measures by the Ghana Police Service to maintain calm and reinforce public confidence in the municipality. The statement noted that aside from engaging with youth and traditional authorities, DCOP Acquah met executives of the Konkomba Youth Association, urging them to remain calm, exercise restraint, and support ongoing efforts to preserve peace and stability. The engagement follows an attack on a resident, Mr. Moses Fuseini, who sustained pellet wounds and is currently receiving medical treatment. I t was disclosed that investigations are ongoing, and residents are appealed to have confidence in the Ghana Police Service. In another development, the Regional Commander paid a courtesy call on the Konkomba Chief, Nana Teki II, at his palace, briefing the traditional authority, elders, and family members of the victim on measures being taken to ensure justice and prevent reprisals. Nana Teki II expressed concern over the incident but assured the Police of the community's commitment to peace. He indicated that residents would cooperate fully with law enforcement and allow due process to take its course. The Ghana Police Service assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect and bring the perpetrator to justice. The Police urged residents to remain calm, avoid speculation, and support investigations by providing credible information. The statement emphasized the Command's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all persons in the region. Residents are encouraged to use appro priate channels to report concerns. Nkwanta South, a key commercial center in the Oti Region, has experienced intermittent security challenges in recent years, prompting periodic deployments by the Regional Security Council. The latest visit by the Regional Commander underscores a strategy of early engagement with key stakeholders, including youth groups and traditional leaders, to prevent escalation of tensions. Police report intensified patrols and intelligence-led operations in the area as part of ongoing stabilization efforts.
