Accra: Ghana's High Commissioner to South Africa, H.E Benjamin Quarshie, has firmly denied reports claiming that only ten out of 300 Ghanaians repatriated from South Africa were in the country legally.
According to Ghana Web, Quarshie stated that 80% of the repatriated individuals were legally residing in South Africa. He accused the South African government and its immigration staff of attempting to manipulate the narrative to serve their interests.
In a conversation with Accra-based TV3, Quarshie asserted, "I can say for a fact that 80% of the repatriated Ghanaians from South Africa were documented. Only 20% were undocumented." He further challenged the Home Affairs officer who made the claim about the documentation status of the evacuees, urging him to provide evidence to support his statement.
Quarshie expressed his surprise at the figures being circulated and predicted that the officer would retract his statement. He assured that facts would be presented in the coming days to allow for public scrutiny and judgment.
