Accra: The headmaster of a school has confirmed the death of a pupil involved in a collision with a tipper truck on the Accra Mall-Dzorwulu stretch. The accident occurred on Thursday, July 30, 2026, and involved a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus carrying schoolchildren.
According to Ghana Web, the children were traveling in the bus when it was struck by the tipper truck. The collision resulted in injuries of varying severity among the pupils. An update provided by TV3 Ghana, shared on July 31, 2026, confirmed the tragic loss of one child in the aftermath of the accident.
Initial reports from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) suggested that the tipper truck collided with the rear of the Sprinter bus. The bus was carrying lower primary schoolchildren who were believed to be returning from an excursion. Early accounts indicated that about 11 children were on board, with several injured and receiving treatment at the 37 Military Hospital and the Police Hospital. At least one child was reported to be in intensive care.
However, the headmaster clarified that the bus was actually transporting between 45 and 50 children, not the initially reported 11. The tipper truck driver reportedly fled the scene following the incident. Investigations into the exact cause of the collision are currently underway.
