Accra: Entertainment critic Ola Michael has called on private investors and business moguls to support the construction of dedicated event centres for Ghana’s creative industry. Speaking during a discussion on UTV’s United Showbiz on April 19, 2026, Ola Michael emphasized the urgent need for the renovation of the Conference Centre, highlighting the facility’s significant deterioration over the years.
According to Ghana Web, Ola Michael noted that the Conference Centre, built in 1991, has shown signs of wear and tear, with many users expressing concerns about its condition. He explained that the materials used in the construction over three decades ago have been deteriorating, with some concrete breaking and metals rotting. He warned that fears over the structural safety of the building have been raised, with some predicting a potential collapse if urgent renovations are not undertaken.
Ola Michael further pointed out the insufficiency of event venues in Ghana, which has resulted in enormous pressure on the Conference Centre. He observed that the venue is used almost every weekend for various activities, exacerbating its deterioration. He argued that the responsibility of building new event centres should not rest solely on the government, but rather involve private investors and wealthy business figures.
He suggested that Charterhouse, a prominent event management company, could lobby investors to construct their own event centre, thereby reducing reliance on government facilities. Ola Michael acknowledged the significant financial investment required for such projects and noted that many investors have yet to recognize the attractiveness of Ghana’s entertainment industry for such commitments. He urged investors to step in and support the construction of dedicated event centres for the creative industry.
