GH¢24.8 Billion Paid to Statutory Funds Without Delays, Says Finance Minister

Accra:Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that the government has disbursed GH¢24.8 billion to statutory funds since January 2026, marking a significant shift from previous practices plagued by delays and arrears.

According to Ghana Web, Dr. Forson emphasized that the timely and full payments to statutory institutions represent a departure from past practices where delays and capping were common, ensuring that these funds can now support essential services as required by law.

The announcement follows the release of the third-quarter allocations for 2026, with the government continuing to meet its obligations to institutions responsible for crucial public services. These funds include the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund), Free Senior High School Programme, District Assemblies Common Fund, and the National Health Insurance Fund, among others.

The statutory funds play a critical role in national development, supporting education, healthcare, infrastructure, and local government services. The timely release of these funds is anticipated to aid institutions in planning and executing their activities without disruptions, ensuring continued support for educational and healthcare programmes as well as other essential services.
