OFFICIAL CALLS FOR MORE GHANAIAS TO REAR SNAILS AS A BUSINESS
ACCRA– Samuel Ofosu, the Municipal Agriculture Extension Officer in Kwahu West in Ghana’s Eastern Region (Province), has called on more locals to take up the rearing of snails to overcome a shortage in its supply in that area.
He explained that the high consumption of snails and the continuous destruction of their natural habitat in the area was causing shortages of supply in Kwahu, some 160 kilometres north of here area.
The Assistant Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in the area, Akwasi Owusu Mensah, explained that the snails were often found in wet areas where worms were likely to be seen.
Owusu said the clearing of large areas for farming and the destruction of the natural environment for snails was likely to affect the supply of the snails.
