Accra: Mr. William Kofi Adzowu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Obuasi East, has officially commissioned the Akaporiso Community Centre, highlighting it as a significant advancement for local residents and reaffirming the Assembly's dedication to completing inherited development projects.
According to Ghana News Agency, the facility, which was initiated during the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration, has been completed under the current government. This completion is part of the Assembly's ongoing commitment to deliver projects that have a direct positive impact on the community. During the commissioning ceremony, Mr. Adzowu emphasized that development initiatives should be viewed independently of political affiliations, stating, 'Project development is for the people, not for political parties.'
Mr. Adzowu further explained the Assembly's dedication to finishing all viable legacy projects, emphasizing that these projects are meant to enhance the quality of life for the municipality's residents. He revealed that 10 percent of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) is specifically allocated for completing such projects.
In terms of managing the new facility, the MCE detailed a revenue-sharing plan where 30 percent of income from renting the centre will be directed to the Assembly, while the community will retain 70 percent for maintenance. Additionally, a committee has been formed to inspect and monitor the centre every three months.
Mr. Adzowu pointed out that the community centre will offer a modern venue for various events, thereby reducing the need to obstruct roads for such gatherings. He also mentioned the pursuit of other significant projects, including the completion of the new Obuasi East District Assembly Office.
Mr. William Ezor, CEO of In Him Is Life Limited, the project's contractor, noted that the centre has a seating capacity of about 500 people and includes essential facilities such as a 10-seater water closet, two office rooms, and a mechanised borehole for water supply.
Nana Bosompem Kitikyi Apenteng II, Dompoase Kontihene, expressed gratitude to successive governments for their roles in the project's completion, acknowledging both the NPP and the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) administrations. He encouraged residents to support the MCE and mentioned ongoing developments, such as the construction of a science laboratory and dormitories at Christ the King College (CKC), alongside plans to relocate the Obuasi East District Assembly offices to Pomposo.
Nana Apenteng also announced his involvement in clearing the area opposite the community centre for a parking area and requested the Assembly to build a parking lot and an access road linking the main road to the centre.
