Obuasi: Mr. William Kofi Adzowu, the Municipal Chief Executive for Obuasi East, has initiated the construction of three significant projects aimed at enhancing access to education and healthcare in the region. The projects include a health centre with nurses' quarters at Domeabra, a kindergarten block at Nyamesomyede, and a Junior High School classroom block at Asonkore.
According to Ghana News Agency, these projects are designed to address existing gaps in healthcare and educational infrastructure, signifying growth and improved service delivery for the local communities. Mr. Adzowu emphasized that the new JHS classroom block is intended to eliminate the 'shift system', which has been a challenge in parts of the municipality. He stated that the aim is to ensure students do not miss instructional time due to insufficient classroom space, thus reducing overcrowding and creating a conducive learning environment.
Mr. Adzowu also highlighted the importance of the kindergarten block at Nyamesomyede, stressing the priority of expanding early childhood education access. The initiative is part of the Assembly's efforts to provide a solid academic foundation by bringing educational facilities closer to the communities.
The MCE called on community members for their support and cooperation to ensure the timely completion of the projects. The construction of the health centre with nurses' quarters is expected to enhance healthcare access and quality in Domeabra and nearby areas. The MCE mentioned that the facility would offer accessible healthcare services, minimizing the distance residents currently travel for basic medical care.
Mrs. Charity Afrifa-Adjei, the Municipal Director of Health Services, expressed gratitude for the projects and assured that qualified health personnel would be deployed once the health centre is completed. Mr. Samuel Oppong from the Education Directorate described the JHS block as a transformative project, noting that while it marks progress towards ending the shift system, ongoing partnership will be crucial to fully eliminate it in the municipality.
