Kumasi: Former Deputy General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Nana Obiri Boahen, has voiced strong opposition to the recent arrests of several NPP members, labeling the actions as unnecessary and misguided. In an interview on Angel FM, Boahen expressed his disapproval of attempts to justify these arrests by drawing parallels to incidents that occurred under the previous NPP administration.
According to Ghana Web, Obiri Boahen criticized supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for defending the arrests by referencing the detention of media personalities such as Bongo Ideas and Captain Smart during the NPP's governance. He argued that this line of reasoning was flawed, as it failed to acknowledge the public discontent such actions had previously generated, contributing to the NPP's electoral loss.
Boahen further highlighted the detrimental impact of repeating these actions, emphasizing that society disapproves of such measures. He questioned the necessity of drawing comparisons, suggesting that the NDC's actions might mirror the same mistakes that led to the NPP's downfall.
In addition, Boahen expressed concern over the handling of a legal case involving Kwame Baffoe, also known as Abronye DC. He pointed out potential issues of fairness and conflict of interest, questioning the appropriateness of having Abronye's case heard by the same judge he allegedly defamed. Boahen argued that such situations could compromise the perceived impartiality of the judgment.
He concluded by stressing the importance of discussing these concerns openly to ensure justice and fairness in the legal process. Boahen called for a rational discourse on these matters, asserting that common sense should prevail in addressing such issues.
