Sunyani: Mr. Yaw Eric Atanga, the Bono Regional Organiser of the National Union of Tricycle Operators of Ghana (NUTUG), has advised tricycle owners to ensure that they engage only licensed riders to operate their vehicles. He emphasized the importance of this measure as the union continues discussions with the government to regulate tricycle operations as a form of passenger transportation in the country.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Atanga, who also serves as the Sunyani Municipal Chairman of NUTUG, urged the government to expedite the process of regularizing tricycle operations. He highlighted the economic advantages of tricycles, noting that they not only serve as a mode of transport for passengers but also create job opportunities for young people.
Mr. Atanga, also known in the community as Ben Jesus, encouraged tricycle owners to prioritize user safety alongside their financial gains. He pointed out that allowing minors to operate the tricycles is illegal and stressed that only individuals aged 21 and above should be allowed to ride.
He further explained that the rising costs of fuel and spare parts have necessitated an increase in fares and appealed to passengers to be cooperative and understanding of the fare adjustments.
