Accra: Lawson Afisem A nursing student, Ivy Akorful, has brought her mother, 40-year-old Rita Opoku, onto Lawson Afisem, a television programme on Lawson TV that focuses on resolving domestic disputes, over a lingering issue regarding her biological father.
According to Ghana Web, Ivy is caught in a dilemma between two men, Uncle Ato and Yaw Obeng, and is uncertain about which of them is her biological father. On the September 8, 2026 episode of the programme, Ivy requested a DNA test involving the two men to ascertain her true paternity.
Ivy recounted that she had lived with Uncle Ato for several years but eventually began to doubt his role as her biological father. She shared, "I stayed with my father for the past ten years and I realised that the way the man was taking care of me, I wasn't convinced. So, I told my mother and she said he is not my father."
Rita Opoku explained her past relationship with Uncle Ato, which began when she was 16. Despite his two other marriages, she lived with him until he started mistreating her. During this challenging time, she met Yaw Obeng, with whom she fell in love, leading to an affair and her subsequent pregnancy.
Rita revealed that due to fear of Uncle Ato, she and Yaw decided to let him believe he was the father of the unborn child. They planned that Yaw would eventually take responsibility after the child was born. "When I got pregnant, the two of us agreed that we were afraid, so I told him, after I give birth, then we decide," she recounted.
She maintained contact with Yaw, updating him about the child and facilitating occasional visits. "So, I used to call him and update him about the child and sometimes he comes and visits her and goes," Rita added.
The issue has now emerged on the television programme after Ivy revealed that her mother, who initially introduced Uncle Ato as her father, is now asserting that Yaw Obeng is her biological father. Ivy is thus calling for a DNA test to clarify her paternity and identify her true father.
