NUGS President Advocates for Youth Leadership Opportunities

Accra:The President of the National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS), Rashid Ibrahim, has emphasized the importance of providing young people with leadership roles to enhance Ghana's development. Ibrahim believes that young leaders have shown their capability to achieve results and should be included in national decision-making processes.

According to Ghana Web, Ibrahim's remarks were made in the documentary 'We Shall Lead Voices Shaping the Future of Africa,' which addresses the experiences of young leaders and the challenges faced by youth and women in politics and public life. The documentary is part of the European Union Women and Youth Democratic Engagement (WYDE) Political Parties Project, which aims to boost the involvement of women and young people in democratic processes.

Sherif Ghali, CEO of the Ghana Chamber of Young Entrepreneurs and President of the Ghana Youth Federation, also featured in the documentary, voiced his concerns about the limited political involvement of young people. Ghali pointed out that despite efforts to include them, many young individuals remain excluded from decisions that impact their lives and the nation's progress.

Hariratah Ibrahim Doudu, Vice President of the Student Representative Council (SRC) of the Ghana School of Law, discussed the persistent obstacles women encounter in seeking political and leadership roles. She noted that while more women are challenging these barriers, further support is essential to encourage female participation.

The documentary showcases insights from political and public leaders in Ghana, Kenya, and Uganda, exploring the hurdles, opportunities, and experiences of young people and women aspiring to engage in politics, governance, and leadership. As the EU WYDE Political Parties Project concludes, the documentary aims to disseminate the lessons learned beyond its immediate participants. The project has been funded by the European Union, led by the European Network of Political Foundations (ENoP), and implemented in Ghana by the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) Ghana Office.
