NSA Boss Proposes Ghana Premier League Quota for Black Stars

Accra: The Director-General of the National Sports Authority (NSA) has called on the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to consider introducing a quota system to guarantee the inclusion of Ghana Premier League players in the Black Stars squad for major tournaments. Speaking in an interview on Sports Check on Ghanaweb TV, he said at least three to five of the best-performing players in the domestic league should be selected for the national team, regardless of the intense competition for places. According to Ghana Web, the NSA boss suggested that the initial quota could cover three key positions: goalkeeper, defender, and striker, with additional spots for midfielders and wingers if the number is increased to five. The inclusion of local players at the World Cup would not only provide them with valuable international experience but also help promote and market the Ghana Premier League. He explained that having domestic players at the global tournament would attract greater attention to the league, as internat ional journalists and football enthusiasts would be encouraged to follow the players and their respective clubs in Ghana. 'When the Ghana Premier League is present at the World Cup, the commentators, the reporters, the narrative changes,' he said. He argued that excluding local players from major international competitions could inadvertently send the message that the domestic league lacks quality.
