NPP’s Delay in Choosing 2028 Running-Mate Raises Concerns Over ‘Napo’s’ Political Relevance

Wenchi: Mr Richard Kwadwo Adu, a prominent member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region, has voiced concerns regarding the party's delay in selecting its running-mate for the Election 2028. He advocates for the retention of Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, widely known as 'Napo', as the most suitable running-mate for the former Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who is the NPP's flagbearer for the upcoming election. According to Ghana News Agency, Mr Adu highlighted the political significance of maintaining 'Napo' in the running-mate position, warning that choosing an alternative could be politically unwise and detrimental to the party's chances in the next General Election. He pointed out that since 2000, the NPP has not had a running-mate as loyal and supportive to the party's grassroots as Napo. In an interview conducted at Wenchi, a stronghold of the NPP in the Bono Region, Mr Adu, a former NPP youth organiser at the Wenchi constituency, stressed that the delay i n confirming Napo as the running-mate undermines the purpose of the early congress held in 2025, which reaffirmed Dr Bawumia as the Election 2028 flagbearer. Mr Adu further underscored Napo's strong grassroots support, not only within the NPP but also across the country. He emphasized the importance of the constituencies as the backbone of the party, suggesting that to regain political power, the NPP and Dr Bawumia must heed the call to select Napo as the running-mate. In conclusion, Mr Adu asserted that the combination of 'Napo' and Bawumia would significantly enhance the NPP's prospects of winning the 2028 election.
