Accra: Hundreds of members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have taken to the streets to protest what the party describes as an attack on democracy under the current government. The demonstration, dubbed "Democracy Under Attack," is aimed at defending civil liberties, the rule of law, and democratic accountability.
According to Ghana Web, the protesters began their march from the Supreme Court and are heading towards the Jubilee House, to express their concerns and frustrations over what they describe as threats to Ghana's democratic values. The protest has attracted support from other groups, including the Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG), which has thrown its weight behind the demonstration.
The NPP's demonstration marks a significant expression of public discontent, focusing on what they perceive as governmental actions undermining democratic principles. The party emphasizes the importance of maintaining democratic accountability and the rule of law, rallying supporters to join in their call for preserving these fundamental values.
