Odomase: Mr Yaw Dabie Appiah-Mensah, a founding member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Bono Region, has described the peace pact signed by the party's Election 2028 presidential hopefuls as crucial and timely, as the party delegates prepare to go to the polls on Saturday, January 31. The largest opposition party has scheduled January 31, 2026, for its Presidential Primary to elect the NPP's Election 2028 flagbearer.
According to Ghana News Agency, all five presidential aspirants signed a peace pact on Thursday, January 22, committing themselves to unity, respect for party processes, and support for the eventual winner. The aspirants include former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, former Assin Central MP, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, MP for Abetifi and former Food and Agriculture Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, MP for Bosomtwe and former Education Minister, and Mr. Kwabena Agyepong, former NPP General Secretary.
Commenting on the peace pact in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Odomase in the Sunyani West constituency, Mr. Appiah-Mensah, who is also a member of the Bono Regional NPP Council of Elders, said it was important to reunite the party soon after the primaries to win the Election 2028. He emphasized the need for peace within the party, stating, "Going forward, peace must prevail in the party and before we can get peace, there should be justice." He advised the party's communicators to "talk good about the NPP and try to be neutral," refraining from speaking for any flagbearer as the presidential primary drew closer.
Mr. Appiah-Mensah expressed that such actions would greatly strengthen the party, bringing about the required unity soon after the primary.
