Ketu north: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Constituency Executive Committee elections in Ketu North, originally scheduled for Saturday, August 8, at Dzodze, faced a delay of approximately two hours due to anomalies detected in the ballot papers.
According to Ghana News Agency, the elections, which were supposed to commence at 0800 hours, eventually started at 1000 hours after the issues were addressed with the replacement of the incorrect ballot papers. Mr Maxwell Koffie Lugudor, the Coordinator of the elections, stated that the delay was essential to ensure a fair and transparent election process.
Mr Lugudor revealed that the Electoral Commission (EC), along with the aspirants and election coordinators, had met on Friday, August 7, to review the ballot papers and discovered anomalies, including the repetition of some serial numbers. As a corrective measure, the affected ballot papers were withdrawn and new ones printed to ensure fairness among contestants and delegates.
He took the opportunity to apologize for the delay, emphasizing that it was necessary to rectify the ballot paper issues. He also thanked the delegates and other stakeholders for their patience, noting that the organizers had agreed to wait for the new ballot papers before proceeding with the elections.
Mr Dominic Agbanu, the Ketu North Electoral Commission Chair, reassured delegates of a peaceful and transparent election despite the initial setback. The elections involve 1,203 delegates tasked with electing 10 constituency executives from a pool of 31 aspirants.
The Ketu North Constituency election is part of several NPP constituency executive elections in the Volta Region that were postponed after the nationwide exercise on July 11, 2026, due to issues in the affected constituencies. These elections are being conducted to finalize the constituency executive selection process in these areas.
