NPP Demands Kofi Adams Face Scrutiny Over World Cup Visa Controversy

Accra:The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has urged Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams to temporarily step down to undergo parliamentary scrutiny concerning alleged irregularities in Ghana's 2026 FIFA World Cup visa arrangements.

According to Ghana Web, the NPP's Communications Director, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, stated at a press conference that the minister should not demand accountability from his subordinates while avoiding scrutiny himself. His comments came after the suspension of National Sports Authority (NSA) Director-General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, who is under investigation for similar allegations.

Aboagye criticized the minister's suggestion that the NSA director-general should step aside, arguing that Kofi Adams should follow the same principle if his ministry's actions are being questioned. He emphasized that issues like abuse of office and negligent supervision do not necessarily involve personal financial gain but still warrant investigation.

Minister Adams has denied any involvement of his ministry in the visa arrangements, attributing the process to the National Sports Authority, Ghana Tourism Authority, TRIBE Culture Fest, and the US Embassy. He claimed he only became aware of the situation when a request for assistance with event coordinators and volunteers was brought to his attention.

The NPP insists that Minister Adams should step aside and address Parliament concerning the controversy, as the investigation into the allegations continues.
