Accra: The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has voiced strong dissatisfaction with the abrupt reassignment of the bail application for its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, widely known as Abronye DC. The party claims the last-minute change of court is inexplicable and alleges it is part of intentional 'judicial gymnastics' aimed at hindering the legal proceedings.
According to Ghana Web, the NPP's General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, stated that the party was surprised to learn of the case's transfer to another court. Speaking with journalists, Frimpong revealed that their lawyer, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, informed them of the unexpected move from the originally assigned court to a different one.
Frimpong highlighted that as of the previous Friday, they were aware the docket had been forwarded to Criminal Court Two. He questioned the rationale behind the case's reassignment, labeling it as perplexing. He suggested that this reassignment is part of the system's attempts to complicate the bail application process. Despite the registrar, Somutu, asserting the initial allocation was erroneous, Frimpong questioned the validity of an electronic allocation error and criticized the manual reassignment to another court.
Despite these challenges, the NPP's legal team attended the hearing in the newly designated court. Frimpong emphasized their commitment to due process, noting that their lawyer proceeded with the hearing in General Jurisdiction Court Two.
This incident occurs against the backdrop of ongoing legal proceedings involving Abronye DC, who remains in custody following his arrest related to comments made about a judge. A High Court bail application was conducted on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. The NPP insists on respecting due process while expressing concerns over perceived attempts to delay or obstruct the case.
