Accra:NPP Communications Director, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has accused the National Democratic Congress (NDC) of bypassing principles of independence, accountability, and neutrality in appointing Emelia Afi Agbenyo as a Deputy Chairperson of the Electoral Commission.
According to Ghana Web, Aboagye argued that the governing party should have considered alternative candidates to avoid potential controversy regarding the independence of the electoral management body. He expressed his dissatisfaction during an interview on Joy FM, questioning the NDC's decision and suggesting that political affiliation should not necessarily disqualify a candidate if addressed appropriately.
He criticized the appointment of someone known for appearing on political programs as an NDC representative, stating that it undermines the expected standards of independence for the Electoral Commission's leadership. Aboagye described the NDC's portrayal of the appointee as neutral as a "shameless attempt" and dismissed their position.
