According to Ghana Web, Yandoh argued during a panel discussion on Kumasi-based Akoma FM, which was also shared on X, that the timing of the clean-up slated for Friday, July 10, and Saturday, July 11, 2026, suggests political sabotage. He questioned the President's decision by highlighting that the NPP will be conducting its internal elections on July 11, 2026, and implied that the clash of dates was intentional.
Yandoh expressed his dissatisfaction by stating, "I want to tell President Mahama to listen carefully: Ghana does not belong to the NDC alone. At some point, every leader must learn to tolerate other political parties." He further criticized the move as not reflecting good leadership or inclusiveness, urging NPP members to remain undeterred and asserting that "not even the President can stop us from holding our primaries."
These remarks followed the government's announcement of a nationwide clean-up exercise, initiated in response to devastating floods that affected several regions, including the Greater Accra and Ashanti Regions. President Mahama declared July 10 and 11 as National General Cleaning Days, with the initiative aimed at desilting drains, clearing debris, and cleaning public spaces to mitigate future flooding risks.
Security agencies and local assemblies are set to lead the efforts on Friday, July 10, 2026. The general public, including public officials, ministers, MPs, and MMDCEs, are expected to participate on Saturday, July 11, 2026. The clean-up exercise has gained support from entities like Zoomlion Ghana, which has committed personnel and equipment to the initiative.
