Accra: The District Chief Executive for Bosomtwe, Abdulai Hamidu, says there are no illegal mining activities around Lake Bosomtwe. According to Ghana Web, the recent illegal mining activities being tackled are occurring in Beposo, a community located about 15 kilometres away from the lake.
Speaking to OTEC News reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng on Monday, the DCE stated that dozens of excavators have been seized by authorities as part of efforts to clamp down on galamsey in the area. "We have about 20 communities around the lake, and I can say for a fact that no form of illegal mining is happening in any of these communities," he asserted.
He further explained that Beposo, the community in question, has been a mining area for years, but recent intelligence revealed some illegal activities there, prompting the intervention. The seized excavators have been sent to the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, and investigations are ongoing to ensure that perpetrators are prosecuted.
The DCE reassured that the assembly is committed to doing everything possible to protect Lake Bosomtwe from any illegal mining activities, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding the region's natural resources.
