Nkwanta south: Mr Joseph Awal Antwi, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nkwanta South, has officially commenced the construction of a Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound in Jumbo, a farming community within the municipality. This initiative is part of an ongoing effort to enhance healthcare delivery and living conditions for residents in the area.
According to Ghana News Agency, during the ceremony marking the start of the project, Mr Antwi emphasized the government's commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare, particularly in underserved regions. This is part of a broader strategy to ensure equitable primary healthcare delivery nationwide. The facility, once completed, will include an Outpatient Department (OPD), a labour ward, and nurses' quarters, providing crucial infrastructure for healthcare services.
Mr Antwi highlighted the importance of providing residential accommodation for health workers, which would enable them to respond promptly to emergencies and other health-related issues, including those occurring at night. Construction is slated to begin within a week, with an expected completion and handover timeline of six months.
The MCE urged local residents to cooperate with the contractor and help safeguard construction materials, emphasizing the importance of preventing theft or any actions that could delay the project. The Chief of Jumbo, Ubor Lasoon Charles, expressed gratitude to the government, the local Member of Parliament, Mr Geoffrey Kini, and the MCE for initiating this impactful project. He acknowledged the construction of the CHPS Compound as a long-awaited intervention that will greatly improve healthcare access in the community.
The chief also committed to ensuring the community's protection and maintenance of the facility, emphasizing its importance for both current and future generations.
