Accra: The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Nkwanta South, Mr. Joseph Awal Antwi, reported that the municipality is making progress in infrastructural development, despite ongoing conflicts impacting certain areas. He made these remarks during the Ninth Ordinary Meeting of the Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Awal highlighted that since 2025, the Assembly has maintained steady progress in implementing development projects, with approximately 95 percent of ongoing works advancing as planned. The Assembly has been actively involved in constructing classroom blocks, Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compounds, and other social amenities to enhance access to education, healthcare, and essential services.
Mr. Awal stated that the funds allocated for government-sponsored projects have been fully utilized, leading to the completion of some projects, while others are at various stages of execution. This progress underscores the Assembly's commitment to improving the living conditions of residents, despite security challenges.
However, the MCE acknowledged that the recurring conflict presents challenges to development planning and project implementation. He noted that insecurity has disrupted personnel movement, community engagement, and other coordination activities necessary for effective project execution and long-term investment.
Mr. Awal reassured residents that the Government, in collaboration with the Municipal Assembly and security agencies, will continue peacebuilding and stabilization efforts to restore lasting peace. He emphasized the need for an enabling environment for accelerated development and appealed to residents and stakeholders to support ongoing peace efforts, stressing that sustainable development is achievable only in a peaceful and secure environment.
