Nkwanta: The people of Nkwanta South in the Oti Region have commemorated this year's Ghana's Independence Day with a renewed call for peace, unity, and accelerated development in the municipality.
According to Ghana News Agency, the celebration, which brought together students, traditional leaders, security personnel, and government officials, was marked with a colourful parade and cultural displays that highlighted the rich heritage of the area. Mr Joseph Kwame Antwi Awal, Municipal Chief Executive of Nkwanta South, addressed the gathering and emphasised the importance of peace as a foundation for development.
He also noted that despite the challenges that have affected the municipality in recent years, residents must remain committed to dialogue, tolerance, and cooperation to ensure lasting stability. Mr Antwi Awal encouraged the youth to embrace discipline, patriotism, and hard work to contribute meaningfully to the growth of both the municipality and the nation at large.
He also commended the chiefs for their efforts in peace dialogue and urged them to continue working with security agencies and engaging with the youth to bring lasting peace. He stressed that peace would create an environment needed to attract investment, promote tourism, and improve livelihoods. Students from various basic schools and senior high schools who participated in a march past displayed impressive coordination and enthusiasm as they paid their respect to the country's Independence heroes.
