Tema:The Most Reverend Professor Johnson Kwabena Asamoah-Gyadu, presiding bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, has called on Mr. Alfred Sekyi, the newly inducted lay president, to guide the church with faithfulness, drawing on his divine grace, gifts, and professional experience.
According to Ghana News Agency, the induction service took place at St. Paul Cathedral in Tema, where the Presiding Bishop highlighted the importance of a cooperative relationship between the clergy and laity in the church's administrative framework, as opposed to a competitive one.
Referencing Acts Chapter 6 from the Bible, the Bishop illustrated the significance of spiritual leadership in recognizing and empowering diverse talents. He explained that the early apostles appointed deacons to ensure that minority groups and widows were cared for, stressing that leadership involves entrusting capable individuals with administrative responsibilities.
He further linked these principles to national development, emphasizing that sustainable progress is contingent upon continuity, institutional memory, and the inclusion of experienced leaders, rather than frequent changes driven by political considerations.
The service was attended by church leaders and members, who gathered to support and celebrate the new leadership's commissioning and the advancement of the church's mission.
