Accra:National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Abanga Yakubu Alhassan, has expressed strong support for the government's expenditure control measures, asserting that such financial management should not be seen as a failure to spend.
According to Ghana Web, Alhassan emphasized that requiring Ministries, Departments, and Agencies to justify their expenses and secure fund releases is essential for responsible financial management.
In his statement, Alhassan highlighted that the commitment authorisation regime enforced by the Ministry of Finance exemplifies fiscal discipline, accountability, and prudent financial governance. He argued that this mechanism is crucial for strengthening expenditure controls and ensuring that every cedi spent is accounted for and provides real value to Ghanaians.
He further noted that President John Dramani Mahama had pledged efficient and responsible use of public funds, and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is diligently working to fulfill that promise through enhanced controls and strict fiscal discipline.
Alhassan urged Ghanaians to support the Finance Minister in implementing policies that will protect the public purse and enhance citizens' welfare, highlighting that responsible financial management is about spending wisely, not about failing to spend.
