Accra: The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is conducting its parliamentary primary election today in the Ayawaso East constituency, marked by a significant presence of police officers to ensure safety and order. According to Ghana News Agency, the Ghana Police Service has implemented heightened security measures at the Nima Cluster of Schools, the designated venue for the primary. This action aims to maintain public order and facilitate a peaceful and transparent electoral process. The election comes in the wake of the passing of Mr. Mahama Naser Toure, a long-serving NDC Member of Parliament, who died after an illness. A total of 1,039 delegates will cast their votes across two polling centres, labeled A and B. Centre A comprises 544 registered voters, while Centre B includes 495 registered voters. Candidates vying for the position include Mohammed Ramme, the NDC Constituency Chairman; Amina Adam, the widow of the late Member of Parliament; Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana's High Commissioner to Nigeri a; Yakubu Azindow; and Najib Mohammed. Meanwhile, a poll conducted by Global Info Analytics suggests that Amina Adam is the frontrunner in today's primary.
