Accra: An aspiring National Deputy Communications Officer for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Joshua Sika Nartey, has publicly urged President John Dramani Mahama to consider appointing Sam Kofi Atta Mills, the son of the late President Professor John Evans Atta Mills, to a position within his administration.
According to Ghana Web, Nartey's remarks came during the events commemorating the 14th anniversary of Professor Mills' passing. He emphasized that while Ghanaians continue to honor the legacy of the late President, they should also focus on the contributions and welfare of his family. Nartey noted, "For the past 14 years, we've been laying wreaths and talking about the legacy of Professor Mills but, at this point, we should discuss what his progeny has gained from this celebration."
Nartey argued that Sam Kofi Atta Mills has been an active supporter of the NDC, especially during the party's campaigns, and therefore deserves an opportunity to serve in the government. He stated, "This is somebody who travelled, campaigned and sold everything he had to support the NDC. We expected him to be part of the Mahama administration, but he's nowhere to be found."
Furthermore, the NDC communicator hopeful called for the government to provide support to the families of former national leaders and urged President Mahama to utilize Sam Kofi Atta Mills' expertise. He said, "We need to empower Sam Kofi Atta Mills so he can contribute to the betterment of this Mahama legacy term that we are seeing."
Nartey also addressed party supporters who are awaiting appointments, encouraging them to remain patient. He expressed confidence that everyone would eventually have the opportunity to contribute to the government.
