Twifo hemang: The Central Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Mr. Emmanuel Kwesi Dawood, has issued a warning to religious leaders and politicians regarding interference in demolition exercises. These operations are part of a directive from President John Dramani Mahama aimed at removing structures that hinder the flow of water and contribute to flooding.
According to Ghana News Agency, Mr. Dawood emphasized that NADMO would implement a 'name and shame' strategy against individuals obstructing these demolitions. He noted that structures within road reservations are also slated for demolition to facilitate road expansion projects. Mr. Dawood made these remarks at the launch of Disaster Volunteer Groups in the district capitals of Twifo Hemang and Twifo Praso.
He revealed that NADMO has conducted 50 demolition exercises across the Central Region this year. These operations targeted structures blocking drains and roads, as well as dilapidated buildings that pose risks to occupants. The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Twifo-Atti-Morkwa, Mr. Isaac Yawson, and the DCE for Twifo Hemang-Lower Denkyira, Mr. Patrick Fiable, urged volunteers to remain committed and assured them of future recognition during NADMO recruitment exercises.
District NADMO Directors, Mr. Alex Ampah and Mr. James Pra, discussed the operational challenges the organization faces. They called for support from the government and non-governmental organizations to enhance their activities.
