Moree: The Central Regional Directorate of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is urging immediate humanitarian intervention after tidal waves struck the coastal fishing community of Moree in the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese District for three consecutive days. "The disaster has displaced many residents and caused significant destruction to homes and property," NADMO stated.
According to Ghana Web, speaking on Channel One's Newsroom, Central Regional NADMO Director Kwesi Dawood emphasised that affected families who have lost their homes urgently require relief support. He also highlighted the pressing need for a permanent sea defence wall to protect the community from future tidal wave attacks.
Dawood described the incident as a climate-induced disaster that demands coordinated action from the government, development partners, and other stakeholders. "What occurred in Moree is a tidal wave-induced disaster that requires a comprehensive advocacy and action plan. Moree needs immediate humanitarian assistance as well as long-term engineering and policy solutions, such as addressing the impact of the stalled sea defence project and implementing other climate interventions to prevent future occurrences," he added.
