Accra: Former Administrator of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), Irene Naa Torshie Addo, has spoken out following the defeat of former Assin North legislator, Kennedy Agyapong, in the New Patriotic Party presidential primaries. Naa Torshie Addo, who backed Ken Agyapong in the flagbearship race and was tipped to be his running mate, in a statement sighted by GhanaWeb, congratulated the winner of the primaries, former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. She also expressed her gratitude to the former Assin North Member of Parliament (MP) for his leadership.
According to Ghana Web, Naa Torshie Addo extended special appreciation to Kennedy Agyapong for his leadership, inspiration, energy, and conviction. She thanked Team Ken and all supporters for their sportsmanship, collaboration, and contributions throughout the process. She stated, "Our collective efforts have strengthened our party and enriched our internal democratic process. I warmly congratulate Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on his victory and wish him and the party every success."
The former DACF boss further called for unity within the NPP as the party prepares for the 2028 general elections. She emphasized the importance of unity, stating, "As we move forward, I humbly call on all members to come together as one united party, placing our shared vision and collective strength above all else. Unity remains our greatest asset, and together we can build a stronger, more inclusive future for our party and secure victory in the 2028 elections for the good of Ghana."
The Electoral Commission of Ghana declared former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia the winner of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries. According to official results released by the Electoral Commission after the close of polls on January 31, 2026, Dr Bawumia garnered 110,645 votes, representing 56.48%. His closest contender, former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, obtained 46,554 votes (23.76%). Dr Bryan Acheampong followed with 36,303 votes (18.53%), while Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum received 1,999 votes (1.02%). Kwabena Agyapong secured 402 votes, representing 0.21%.
